DailyPhotos > HippyfromOz  > Daily Photos > A Photo A Day
I really need to improve my standard of photography - I guess that's the main reason why I am here. It's a huge commitment to capture a photo each and every day for a whole year. It worries me that my photographs won't meet the standard, my life is so boring that nobody will look, or I might be too busy or lazy to stick to the deal.
I often admire the albums from this group and wonder at their tenacity to produce an interesting photo daily. It's like peeking into their lives and their personalities - I am well aware I am leaving myself wide open by this commitment.
Enjoy

HippyfromOz > Saturday 5 July 2008 - In Mum's garden .......
HippyfromOz > Friday 4 July 2008 - The window in Dad's old shed - I'll be sad when it falls down or the time comes to demolish it.
Happy 4th July !!!!
HippyfromOz > Thursday - 3 Jul 2008 - Lonely tree at Point O'Halloran - sorry if you guys are sick of boats but it's where I spend most of my time when I'm not working.
I've been battling a bad bout of the flu since last Friday. Feeling a lot better today and since I didn't go to work was able to get down to the waterfront a little earlier - therefore I had more light to play with (my last 2 DP's were taken in very low light).
HippyfromOz > Wednesday 2 Jul 2008 - Another late afternoon shot at Victoria Point
HippyfromOz > Tuesday 1 Jul 2008 - Girl on a swing at Victoria Point - used the desaturate option to see what happens
HippyfromOz > Sunday 29 Jun 2008 - Steve you're nearly right - not a willow but a wattle - my favourite flower, I've been waiting for it to bloom into flower - took this from my front yard, it actually lives next door. Had to use my zoom lens and should have used a tripod cause I find it difficult to hold steady - I'll try again soon
HippyfromOz > Saturday 28 Jun 2008 - Not a good image, and not my usual sort of photo - but important to me. It was taken in my front yard, and is my first manual exposure photo - I usually shoot AV where I choose the aperture because shutter speed scares me to death. The strange thing about this is when I look at the exif on the original image it says Manual exposure and when I check the exif on this cropped version it doesn't state it is a manual sxposure. Is this normal? Anyway any constructive critism and suggestions most welcome ....
I've been absent from the dailies for weeks, haven't picked up my camera till now - the legacy of working long hours - it is dark when I leave for work and dark when I arrive home. I know lots of you guys manage to post when you are busy but I am hopeless. It is the end of the financial year here on the 30th and the busiest time for me. It's the time of the year when the Auditors arrive to go through my years work - so very stressful time. I have tried to keep up with my comments though.
On another note - Dita's camera is still with Canon and she is climbing the walls - she has used my camera a couple of times but she isn't happy with the results.
Oh I guess you want to know - ISO 200, 5.6 aperture, speed 1/125 and focal length 73mm.
HippyfromOz > Beau has featured in my DP's before - I often meet him when I'm down by the waterfront at Victoria Point. He's such a beautiful dog - more so because he visits the local old peoples home - they must be delighted with him too.
HippyfromOz > Sunday 8 June 2008 - Another one from the Winterson Festival - the Festival runs for a whole week finishing today Sunday.
HippyfromOz > Saturday 7 June 2008 - Jacinda and I went down to the Wintersun Festival at Coolangatta - lovely warm winter's day.
HippyfromOz > 6 June 2008 - Another late afternoon at Victoria Point - the tide is the lowest I've ever seen it - the Coochie Mudlo ferry isn't running because the water isn't deep enough - they have even called the dredge in.
HippyfromOz > Thursday 5 June 2008 - Fishing - Late this afternoon on Victoria Point jetty - can't believe I've posted fishermen two days in a row.

Dedman & Hershy I tried a different crop ....
HippyfromOz > 2 June 2008 - Fishing off the rocks at Currumbin - the weather is still brutal - I was unsuccessful in my attempts today, one of those days I think - this one was from last week.
HippyfromOz > Saturday 31 May 2008 - The original Redlands RSL (Returned Servicemans League) Headquarters at Cleveland - the new headquarters are across the road in a huge modern building.
Had to run from the car between showers of rain to get this one !!
HippyfromOz > Friday 30 May 2008 - Rained heavily all day today - I have to go to the bank at Stones Corner for work a couple of days a week, have seen this tree before and admired it, today I happened to park right in front of it and you guessed it .......
Unfortunately I have no idea what it is.
There's no blue in this one so it's for TomL.
HippyfromOz > Thursday 29 May 2008 - Imagine .......
Well you all know this isn't my thing to photograph indoor objects - the weather is horrible outside - wet, gusty and miserable - I'm off to bed with a good book.
HippyfromOz > Wednesday 28 May 2008 - Overcast day with drizzly rain - was hard up for a daily today - this is one of the local houses that face the waterfront at Victoria Point.
HippyfromOz > Tuesday 27 May 2008 - Hilliards Creek at Ormiston Recreation Reserve late afternoon - our days are getting shorter - sun has set by 5pm - winter is on our doorstep in 5 days time
HippyfromOz > Monday 26 May 2008 - Well I am not sure about this one - I tried lots of different crops. I thought you guys would be sick of my blue skies and thought I'd try something different. This is another one from yesterday taken at Fingal Head, the rock is volcanic - a long time ago Mt Warning in the Tweed Valley was a volcano and Fingal Head is a result of an eruption - so they say !! Captain Cook chartered these waters - Cook Isle is visible from this headland. Cook actually named this headland Point Danger, but somehow confusion resulted in the next headland northwards named Point Danger and they actually realised they got it wrong in the 1970's but far too late to rename the headlands.
HippyfromOz > Sunday 25 May 2008 - Give me your hand - Pacific Ocean at Fingal Heads, northern New South Wales - just over the Queensland border - Sorry I haven't been around lately - my boss has been ill and away for five weeks - a lot of her work fell into my hands which meant extra long hours for me - I was managing well until the last couple of weeks when I didn't have the time to pick up my camera - thank goodness she is back tomorrow. Am looking forward to catching up on what you guys have been posting while I was absent.
HippyfromOz > Friday 16 May 2008 - Something different today - once or twice a year we get requests at work to use our grounds as a helicopter pad. Today the Channel 9 chopper landed to collect the Queensland Deputy Premier, so I hurried out to take a quick photo as they left.
HippyfromOz > Tuesday 14 May 2008 - Ducks in the Hilliards Creek at Ormiston
HippyfromOz > Monday 13 May 2008 - Mangroves at Point O'Halloran late in the afternoon - nice to see the water in and the boats floating.
HippyfromOz > Sunday 11 May 2008 - Flowers at the market garden ready for Mothers Day - Happy Mothers Day everyone !!
HippyfromOz > Saturday 10 May 2008 - This is what they were watching.
HippyfromOz > Friday May 9 2008 - My nieces' girls paddling in the water at Victoria Point - what were they looking at ?
HippyfromOz > Thursday 8 May 2008 - Tweed River at dusk.
HippyfromOz > Wednesday 7 May 2008 - Sitting up on Kirra Hill overlooking the Esplanade at Coolangatta.
HippyfromOz > Tuesday 6 May 2009 - My eldest daughter lives at Kirra Beach - I marvelled at how things have changed over the years - names of shops such as Bliss, Flirt, Abundance.
HippyfromOz > Monday 5 May 2008 - saw this car at Crystal Creek in the Northern Rivers Hinterland
HippyfromOz > Sunday 4 May 2008 - Taken in my home town, where I (and four generations of our family) was born - Murwillumbah. Irish, not sure where your friends live but Murwillumbah is in New South Wales. As I drove down the street I realised this was the church where my parents married so I stopped for a keepsake photograph.
HippyfromOz > Saturday 3 May 2008 - Pelicans at Tumbulgum on Tweed River.
HippyfromOz > Friday 2 May 2008 - Sun filtering through scrub.
HippyfromOz > Thursday 1 May 2008 - Walking at sunset
HippyfromOz > Wednesday 30 April 2008 - I sat on the grass behind this couple and I loved the way the light fell on her hair.
HippyfromOz > Tuesday 29 April 2008 - Walking the dog late afternoon at Victoria Point.
HippyfromOz > Monday 28 April 2008 - the road to Tamborine Mountain - cannot pass on this road. There are traffic lights at the top and bottom to regulate the cars, 15 minutes for traffic going up and then 15 minutes for the down traffic.
HippyfromOz > Sunday 27 April 2008 - floating in the thermals off Tamborine Mountain.
HippyfromOz > Saturday 26 April 2008 - Sunset at Manly Marina this afternoon.
HippyfromOz > Friday 25 April 2008 - Today is ANZAC day - this is the Eternal Flame in the Shrine of Remembrance War Memorial in Brisbane Anzac Square.
My dad fought in the Battle of Tarakan at Borneo in WWII, my paternal grandfather served in France in WWI (and WWII), and his brother lies in the Netley Military Cemetery in the UK.
The fence hasn't always been there - the council was forced to erect it to deter the homeless from roasting pigeons in the flames - lots of available pigeons around the city parks.
HippyfromOz > Saturday 18 April 2008 - Memorial Park in memory of those who sacrificed their lives for us. Since ANZAC day is coming up later this week, I thought this would be appropriate. We should remember every day and not just on one day.
HippyfromOz > Friday 17 April 2008 - My baby turns 17 today and I was hoping to take a photo of him - unfortunately he has other ideas. Back to Plan B.
This a moment in time along the Brisbane River.
HippyfromOz > Wednesday 16 April 2008 - Everybody Needs a Fairy Tale - These boxes are all over town, not even sure what you call them - they belong to Telecom our national telephone company - and they house all those strange wires - quite a mystery to me. The boxes are painted by local school kids in an effort to deter graffiti.
This one is in the street where I work.
HippyfromOz > Tuesday 15 April 2008 - This house was directly over the road from yesterday's boat.
HippyfromOz > Monday 14 April 2008 - Forgotton, uncared for - found this old boat down at Wynnum
HippyfromOz > Sunday 13 April 2008 - Bridges - Taken yesterday at South Bank Parklands. In the foreground is the walkway to the South Bank 3 Ferry Terminal - the higher bridge is the Goodwill Bridge, this is a foot bridge across the Brisbane River - the bridge in the background is the Captain Cook Bridge which takes the M1 across the river. A bit of a conglomeration isn't it !!
HippyfromOz > Tuesday 8 April 2008 - Trying to fill in the gaps for the days I missed uploading - Minnippi Park at Carandale, Brisbane - Jacinda and I went for a walk last week, this is one of the photos I took.
HippyfromOz > Saturday 12 April 2008 - Yesterday we caught the train to Southbank Parklands on the Brisbane River. This is South Brisbane Railway Platform where we waited for the train to take us home.
HippyfromOz > Friday 11 April 2008 - Sorry this is first posting since last Sunday - and no chance of catching up - have missed the interaction in the dailies. This is one from the archives actually taken in Alkmaar, Holland - hope you don't mind that I'm cheating but wanted to try Johnloguk's watercolour effect. Hope I've done it justice - it's been great fun.
HippyfromOz > Thursday 10 April - Even though I haven't posted during the week, I have had a camera in my hands. This is one I took down at the Cleveland Black Swamp Wetlands. It's one of those pesky Australian Ibis - sorry I couldn't catch a spoonbill.
HippyfromOz > Wednesday 9 April 2008 - Early morning sun filters into the Black Swamp Wetlands at Cleveland.
HippyfromOz > Sunday 6 April 2008 - These three paintings kinda brighten up the otherwise bland side wall of the local cinema - directly across the road from yesterday's DP
HippyfromOz > Saturday 5 April 2008 - We went to the local Hogs Breath Cafe for a meal last night - this is the painting on the outside wall. The thing that amuses me the most is the black tyre marks on the footpath that continue into the painting. The nicest thing about the cafe (its really a restaurant) is that you can sit on the outside deck overlooking the water. The food is great.
HippyfromOz > Friday 4 April 2008 - I know - a strange sort of photo for me to post - this was taken from the car & is a scene I see every working day - this morning it was a bit hazy. I drive into Brisbane in crazy traffic through all the eastern suburbs, until I get to this intersection on top of a small hill, where I stop waiting to turn right. This is the first time I can see the CBD and for some reason, when I see this view I always evaluate what on earth I am actually doing on this merry-go-round of life. I live outside the city for a reason - I am not a citygirl, and yet I work there - how crazy is that !!! The beige colour building in the foreground on the right is where I work. The high lights on the right hand side belong to Langlands Park, a football field attached to my workplace. The little white building is some sort of electrical sub station.
HippyfromOz > Thursday 3 April 2008 - Driving 37ks into the city every day drives me crazy - occasionally I take the train - Cleveland Rail Station is my closest station. It's adjacent to the marina which was subject to yesterdays DP. I'd train it frequently if they would design a timetable to suit my needs - can't see that happening in the short term !!
HippyfromOz > Wednesday - 2 April 2008 - Raby Bay Marina at Cleveland, I was down there early this morning on my way to work - the water was like glass - lucky for me I had my camera.
HippyfromOz > Tuesday 1 April 2008 - I must be the Fool - another day has gone by without the camera. This one was taken about two weeks ago. As you know I am clueless about Photoshop, I have the book Photoshop for Dummies but no time to read it - so I tend to just fiddle. I used the infrared filter here and I kinda like it, Jacinda screwed her nose up at it - I would welcome comments and advice.
HippyfromOz > Monday 31 March 2008 - I didn't go to work today - so hard up for a DP. I think this is a silver gum tree - it lives next door - all I had to do is lean over the fence and look up - it's a magnificent tree but not suitable for a suburban back yard.
HippyfromOz > Sunday 21 March 2008 - Burleigh Heads - there is a lone surfer out there somewhere - another one scrambling up the rocks. I love the surf and in the past spent a lot of time on the beach around the corner from these rocks.
HippyfromOz > Saturday 20 March 2008 - Trying to play catchup here - Still at Budds Beach - children's party at the beach but neither the parents or the kids had their cossies on for a swim. Of course the ball ended up in the river. Everyone stood looking at it - nobody wanted to get their party clothes wet and so it floated off down the river beginning it's journey towards the ocean.
HippyfromOz > Friday 28 March 2008 - Nerang River at Budds Beach - I used to live at Budds Beach - just up the road in Birt Avenue - I often brought my two eldest children down here to play. There were no high rise buildings, in fact there were no houses on Macintosh Island across the river. I would not have recognised the place had I not known exactly where I was.
HippyfromOz > Thursday 27 March 2008 - Part of Lawson's Seafood Boathouse at Wynnum - nice place to sit and have fish & chips
HippyfromOz > Wednesday 26 March 2008 - Lacework on the Story Bridge Hotel at Kangaroo Point built in 1886 and retains its charm. Part of the hotel is actually under the Story Bridge.
HippyfromOz > Tuesday 25 March 2008 - Paper bark trees beside the alongside Hilliard's Creek at Ormiston Recreation Reserve - taken late afternoon yesterday
HippyfromOz > Monday 24 March 2008 - Happy Easter - Guardian Angels Catholic Church at Wynnum - built 1904
HippyfromOz > Sunday 23 March 2008 - Dove sitting high up in the gum tree next door - they sit on the TV antennae above my house and shite all over my roof - not impressed at all - Originally there were two around here and they nested in my pergola - there have been a lot more around since neighbour started feeding the lorrikeets. These pesky birds also steal the dog's dry food.
HippyfromOz > Saturday 22 March 2008 - Meet Beau - Golden Labrador - he is almost always at the beach with his friend Bonnie (Golden Retriever) when I go down there of an afternoon. Both dogs are trained as "Therapy Dogs" and visit the aged homes in the area - their owner tells me the dogs are loved by the patients with Alzheimer's & Dementure disease. Well done Beau - pity you wouldn't look at the camera for me.
HippyfromOz > Friday 21 March 2008 - Noisy Miner on Umbrella Tree flower stalk. Umbrella trees are rather profilic around here and Noisy Miners are a pain in the butt - very noisy and aggressive birds. He was chasing the Rainbow Lorrikeets off the branches. They eat insects and honey.
HippyfromOz > Thursday 20 March 2008 - Taken in my garden after a shower of rain. Plants have to be hardy to grow in my garden, I really have no idea - have roses and rosemary in the same garden.
HippyfromOz > Wednesday 19 March 2008 - I don't know what this is, it's not even a good photo but I am fascinated as to what it might be. I drove past the mangroves by Epraprah Creek the other day and I saw this brilliant pink glistening in the sunshine. Today I went back with the camera - no sun today though. I imagine it's some sort of sedge ??
HippyfromOz > Tuesday 18 March 2008 - Tilt train at Brisbane's Roma Street Station.
The fastest narrow guage trains in the world, the Tilt Trains provide an efficient, comfortable and world-class standard of travel - so says Queensland Rail.
This one runs from Brisbane up the Queensland coast to Rockhampton.
HippyfromOz > Monday 17 March 2008 - Sorry about the lack of clover leaves and leprechauns - some boats at Point O'Halloran (does that sound Irish?)
HippyfromOz > Sunday 16 March 2007 - Looking out over Lamington National Park from our cabin at Binna Burra.
Binna Burra is the phrase in the local Aboriginal language meaning "where the beeches grow".
Flowers in the foreground are Grevilleas - native to Australia.
HippyfromOz > Saturday 15 March 2008 - Early Saturday morning we left Mudgeeraba to drive to Lamington National Park. On the way we stopped here at Rosin's Lookout at Beechmont - fantastic view of the Numinbah Valley. Some guys arrived to do some hang gliding but we didn't stay to watch as they were still setting up their gear.
HippyfromOz > Friday 14 March 2008 - The Shed - not just any old shed. This Shed is behind the house at Mudgeeraba where I grew up (from the age of 7), it was Dad's shed - he used to hide in there doing who knows what. Dad passed on over thirty years ago - Mum still lives in the house but she won't get rid of The Shed. It's falling to pieces and leaning very much to the right - I am sure the next cyclone will blow it over. My brother built a car port at the front of it but The Shed still stands.
HippyfromOz > Thursday 13 March 2008 - I drive past Tingalpa Creek on my way to work - today I stopped - this is the only one that didn't have a rain splot on my lens.
HippyfromOz > Wednesday 12 March 2008 - Worked very long hours today, no time or inclination for taking photos. I had to dig into the archives for this one.
Indigenous Australian - I love weather beaten faces, faces that tell a lifetime of stories. I guess this is street photography, spur of the moment, spontaneous decision. I shot it in Broome in far north western Australia in January this year.
HippyfromOz > Tuesday 11 March 2008 - Mangroves, for some strange reason I can see beauty in them. Taken near CJ Walter Park.
Thank you everybody for your support and encouragement - I guess I thought my waterfront photos were mundane cause I see it practically every day. I never tire of viewing your photos whatever they may be cause it is all new to me.
HippyfromOz > Monday 10 March 2008 - Yes I know - same ole same ole - sorry but I love going down to the waterfront after work to relax and take photos.
HippyfromOz > Sunday 9 March 2008 - Found this guy sitting by the waterfront at Manly, a mobile phone in one hand and instruction leaflet in the other. I can emphasize with his dilemma. He was so engrossed he didn't realise I captured his photo.
HippyfromOz > Saturday 8 March 2008 - Late afternoon walk at Victoria Point this afternoon - we seem to be having very low tides at this time of the year - yes the water in the bay is out there, somewhere - much of our waterfront is a lot of mangroves, mud and no sand. We do have a couple of small beaches with nice sand. The houses you can see belong to a retirement village.
HippyfromOz > Friday 7 March 2008 - My afternoon walk at Point Talburpin (Torquay Road East) - I think I should have had the camera down lower - next time. I think it's some sort of Pandanus tree/palm - somebody please correct me if I'm wrong.
HippyfromOz > Thursday 6 March 2008 - This afternoon - looking for my DP - historic St Paul's Anglican Church built in 1873 at Cleveland.
HippyfromOz > Wednesday 5 March 2008 - Cheating today - on account of being totally exhausted - and it's only Wednesday. This is the snake that my daughter nearly stepped on, it still horrifies me to remember that day - her foot was right above the snakes head when she saw it. It was difficult to see in its environment. To this day I don't know how she managed to sidestep this snake - it happened so fast. I managed to get this shot as it slithered away.
The eastern brown snake is the species responsible for most deaths caused by snakebite in Australia, although, with the advent of efficient first-aid treatment and antivenom, there are now usually only one or two deaths per year.
HippyfromOz > Tuesday 4 March 2008 - Brisbane City taken this afternoon from River Terrace at Kangaroo Point cliffs across the Brisbane River not too far from where I work. The trees you can see over the river are part of the Botanical Gardens.
HippyfromOz > Monday 3 March 2008 - Part of the Weinam Creek Marina, Redland Bay
HippyfromOz > Sunday 2 March 2008 - Eprapah is an area of protected environment near Victoria Point. Jacinda & I go down there occasionally to take photos, we have been a bit reluctant of late because she practically stood on a snake (Eastern Brown) down there in January. This happened again at Cleveland last week when she nearly stood on a python - she's afraid the third time she will be bitten. We overcame our fear and went down there today only to be driven out by mosquitos.
HippyfromOz > Saturday 1 March 2008 - Passed this vintage car in the street today - is it a Rolls Royce Silver Ghost ??
HippyfromOz > Friday 29 February 2008 - Road sign in our area - I think it says it all.
We did have large tracts of koala habitat in the Redlands area, unfortunately the population explosion in South-east Queensland means these little guys have fewer trees in which to live.
HippyfromOz > Thursday 28 February 2008 - Stranded dinghies at Pt O'Halloran - they're all heading in the one direction - I estimated 75-80 of them.
HippyfromOz > Wednesday 27 February 2008 - There is a cluster of Bunya Trees at Ormiston near where I live. This Bunya Nut was lying on the ground under one of the trees.
Bunya harvest was a time of feasting and ceremonies for Aboriginal tribes.
They headed for the Bunya mountains where each tribe had ownership of particular trees. The tribes gathered in designated meeting places and any hostilities were suspended. Fruit was gathered and taken home. The fruit was eaten raw, roasted, or pounded to flour to make a kind of bread.
HippyfromOz > Tuesday 26 February 2008 - Today, Cunard’s new ocean liner, Queen Victoria, visited Brisbane on her maiden voyage.
Unfortunately she couldn't dock at Portside Wharf because of her size. The ship was forced to berth at the grain terminal at Fisherman's Wharf. The public were allowed to view the ship from Luggage Point on the opposite side of the river - you can see in the photo what the conditions were like. I drove down there after work - it was raining, some cars were bogged, I managed to find a place to park and walked in the rain through mud and slush till I found a grassy patch and took a photo from there. Apart from the fact that my camera was wet, I was scared I was going to slip over. I wan't brave enough to venture any closer. Have come to the decision that I need to be certified.
Not a good photo but it's all I got.
HippyfromOz > Monday 25 February 2008 - Rain is coming - relief from the heat. Wellington Point Jetty on my way home from work. Wellington Point is a bayside suburb north of Victoria Point where I live. The land you can see on the horizon is Stradbroke Island.
HippyfromOz > Sunday 24 February 2008 - We drove to Tamborine Mountain hoping to escape the heat - no luck. Found the local flea market - these people must be extremely dedicated to work in the midday sun selling their wares.
HippyfromOz > Saturday 23 February 2008 - I'm cheating already - we are in the middle of a heatwave, over 40 degrees celsius - its sweltering and I'm not inclined to go outside.
I photographed this last December in bushland at Mt Cotton, not far from here. This is a closeup of a Scribbly Gum Eucalyptus Tree. It's a large attractive tree with a creamy white trunk. The distinctive brownish 'scribbles' are made by the larvae of the tiny Scribbly Gum Moth.
The eggs of this moth are laid between the old and new season's bark - As the larva burrows between the bark layers it leaves a tunnel which is revealed when the old bark falls away.
Artistic isn't it!!

Scribbly-Gum - by Judith Wright

The cold spring falls from the stone.
I passed and heard
the mountain, palm and fern
spoken in one strange word.
The gum-tree stands by the spring.
I peeled its splitting bark
and found the written track
of a life I could not read.
HippyfromOz > Friday 22 February 2008 - I stood in the rain for this one - aaah the things I do for this daily photo grind.
Grand View Hotel at Cleveland is Queensland's oldest licensed hotel. It was built in 1851 which is pretty old in the scheme of things when you consider that Queensland was part of New South Wales until 1859.
The nicest part about this old hotel is that you can sit out in the back gardens overlooking the ocean in Moreton Bay - it's a beautiful view.
HippyfromOz > Thursday 21 February 2008 - Revisiting the Rainbow Lorrikeets - hope you don't mind. My neighbour put out a plate of seed for them early this morning - I was lucky enough to capture this before I left for work. Bossy boots (third from right) was squarking and pecking at the bird which you can see flying away - I love the colours in his underwing.
HippyfromOz > Wednesday 20 February 2008 - Cleveland Black Swamp Wetlands at 6.45am this morning (on my way to work). The birds you can barely see are Sacred Ibis or Australian White Ibis.
HippyfromOz > Tuesday 19 February 2008 - Low tide at Victoria Point - the ocean is out there, somewhere - the land you can see in the far distance is Stradbroke Island.
HippyfromOz > Monday 18 February 2008 - Called in at Cleveland Point on my way home from work, Cleveland is two suburbs north of where I live. This is the old lighthouse down there - built in 1864 with timber in an unusual hexagonal shape. In 1976 a boring new lighthouse was built and this one was laid to rest. Unfortunately the tide was so low you cannot see any water in the background.
HippyfromOz > Sunday 17 February 2008 - Something different today - I was driving at Redland Bay when I spotted a camel paddock - not a common sight around here. Unfortunately camels aren't in the habit of posing for the camera. I fiddled with Photoshop filter - drybrush - I actually like the effect - hope you do too.
I found out more about these camels - the owner takes them to shows and hires them out for rides.
HippyfromOz > Saturday 16th February 2008 - Rainbow Lorrikeets on my side fence - I like how the little guy on the left has his feet perched on two fence pailings. Sorry no time to grab my zoom - this is the closest I could get to them before they flew off.
These colourful birds are common along the entire Eastern seaboard from the top of Cape York round to Adelaide.
HippyfromOz > Friday 15 February 2008 - I didn't have to go far for this one - just outside my front door - wish I could somehow bring the aroma into the photo so you could experience the smell. Now don't go thinking that I have green fingers or a nice garden - I don't. Plants need to be hardy to survive at my place !!!!! That's rosemary growing next to it, gives you some idea that I have no idea about gardening.
HippyfromOz > Thursday 14 February 2008 - This is a row of our local Victoria Point restaurants - you can sit inside or out on the deck over the water. Nothing upmarket - Hogs Breath and similar. I captured this at 6.30am on my way to work. My life already revolves around where I am going to find my daily photo ..... ouch !!!!
HippyfromOz > Wednesday 13 February 2008 - Raining on and off for most of the day. Stopped by at Point O'Halloran looking for a photo opportunity on my way home from work. Found this dilapidated old dingy blowing in the wind - tied to a tree. It must be precious to someone. After all the rain we've had, the water's still murky and uninviting. Believe it or not there were huge black clouds coming in from behind me and I was worried about getting back to the car before the rain set in again. Not a good one but it's my effort for the day.
HippyfromOz > Tuesday 12 February 2008 - Heavy rain all day - I'm not complaining as it 's breaking a long drought - Brisbane's dams are dangerously low & we have been on Level 6 water restrictions for some time now. I thought it was a nice day to introduce you to Maggie - licking her lips, in anticipation. She is a beautiful, even tempered dog. Isn't she georgeous ??
HippyfromOz > Monday 11 February 2008 - These flowers are just outside my office - we call them Birds of Paradise - I believe they originate in South Africa. They're quite an unusual shape for a flower - I think they have rather a proud, regal aura about them.
HippyfromOz > Sunday, 10 Feb 2008 - My very first contribution. My daughter Jacinda, grandson Daniel and I went to Coochie Mudlo Island in Moreton Bay - I captured this while waiting for the ferry to pull in to the jetty at Victoria Point. We were disappointed that the water was discoloured and murky. It turned out to be a nice day.
